When I was elementary school I was often picked on because of my size. I wasn't the skinniest or the fastest and I definitely wasn't the most athletic. If i had to choose a word to describe myself during these years i would say husky. I wasn't obese but I was fat. I also suffered from very bad bronchitis so the kids would often take things from me and take off running because they knew I couldn't chase them for long
When recess came around I would always want to play the same sports as all the other athletic kids but they never chose me. They always told me to run on the track to lose weight and that's when I decided to change. I began exercising and playing sports to slim up and be accepted as I was growing up.
I understand your pain Michael. I was husky as well. I had so many pants that said husky on them, I thought husky was the brand. I was chubby in the face and in the waist, so I was often made fun of for being a little chunky, but like you, I did not let that stop me from being who I was. I overcame that and do believe I am a pretty fit person now.
